I am indeed the #2 spot.

I am also confirming my participation into this event.

I have sent Taylor Bagley and Matt Hassen facebook messages asking about their participation as per Daniel Brennan and Steve Dillard's requests. I have also called William Fuller. William cannot participate the weekend of july 13, 14 and 15. He can however do the following weekend. If most participants are agreeable to this date switch, as per Davis' suggestion, then we could have it then if there aren't any conflicts.

And I almost forgot to make a request.

Witht he closed being in Lexington and it being 2 days, many of those who travel must get a hotel for 2 nights instead of 1 night. With gas and a $100 - $200 hotel bill for 2 nights, I would like to make the following argument:

I believe the stipend money should be divided among those who are traveling to buffer expenses since the closed format has been switched, this year at least, to a 3 day event. It would seem unwise to me to increase the stipends and cost the KCA more money. Anyway, I think it is unlikely my argument will be accepted but I think it is sound and reasonable.

As a means to reduce travel cost for those players not in the area, I offer this general question. Is there perhaps a kind Lexington player who would be willing to shelter one of the wayward Louisvillians for a night or two? Any travelers would promise to hide their red shirts under heavy clothes and come in under cover of darkness...

To the point of the following weekend, the Jr closed is scheduled on that weekend, which would mean both tournaments would happen side by side. This may cause earthquakes, tsunami, volcanic eruptions, and general chaos. Please never suggest, in public,  holding them together. You have been warned....

It appears the Bulldog chess tournament, the bluegrass state games and the Adult closed are all on the same day. That will seriously water down the non-closed tournaments going on at the same time.

I hope we can avoid it being changed too often, if it does get changed.  I doubt any one day is going to make everyone happy. 

Closed Participant Updates:

1. Taylor Bagley said that he will be gone the entire month of July and thus cannot participate.
2. Matt Hassen said that as long as the Closed is not rescheduled and remains as it is, he can play.
3. William Fuller said he can only play if the event is changed to the following weekend.

So far, the weekend with the fewest conflicts is the weekend it is currently on. Someone needs to contact Jesse Boulard to see if he will be able to show up as an alternate.

Yes for some reason or typing error, you did not include my name in your original post. I amended it in a later post.

Has anyone heard from Walker, Steve Parsons, or Michael Johnson?

Since keeping the same day has the fewest conflicts, I believe Taylor Bagley cannot participate, and William Fuller cannot participate. Therefore we need to notify the alternates to attend the event.

I believe Randas Burns spoke with Jesse Boulard last Thursday about playing and he said he more than likely could play.

Switching dates is good for William Fuller but bad for Matt Hassen. Switching dates doesn't help anyone else that I am aware of so far. As I understand it, the current dates have the lowest conflicts and preserves the highest qualified players based on the KY Open final standings. I am unsure if that is a fair way to do it but it doesn't seem unreasonable.

I would like to see Matt Gurley, or someone in charge of the event, to post the final dates and the round times. It would help a lot. Thanks in advance.

Steve Parsons has been contacted. He can't get off work on the 13th but can play on the 14th and 15th. I don't know if this helps or not. Also he would like to know what the round times are for Friday.

I spoke with Matt Gurley,

he said the round times will be as follows:

Friday: 6:00 PM, 9:00 PM

Saturday: 10:00 AM, 1:30 PM, 5:00 PM

Sunday: 10:00 AM, 1:30 PM

He will be online later to confirm it.

So will anyone over 1600 be attending the bluegrass state games on July 14? It was good last year, but is it worth a 4 1/2 drive over if no good players are going to be there?
